Google makes its URL Shortener service Goo.gl available for all
Google has launched Goo.gl, a website for its URL Shortener service that was first introduced in December 2009 as a part of Google Toolbar and FeedBurner and later integrated into many other Google products like News, Blogger, Maps, Picasa Web Albums and Moderator. The move will enable any one to use Goo.gl to shorten and track the URLs they share via social media sites and email.
Muthu Muthusrinivasan, a software engineer at Google, has said, “With Goo.gl, every time you shorten a URL, you know it will work, it will work fast, and it will keep working. You also know that when you click a Goo.gl shortened URL, you are protected against malware, phishing and spam using the same industry-leading technology we use in search and other products.”
“We have focused on making the service lean, but you will find some helpful features. If you sign-in to your Google Account, you will see a list of URLs you have shortened in the past. Click the ‘details’ link next to any of shortened URL and you will find public, real-time analytics data, complete with traffic over time, top referrers, and visitor profiles,” Muthu Muthusrinivasan has added.
According to Matt Cutts, head of Google’s Webspam team, Goo.gl has a secret Easter egg that allows anyone to take a link like http://goo.gl/LFwS and add “.qr” to get a QR code! Like http://goo.gl/LFwS.qr. A QR (Quick Response) code is a matrix barcode (two-dimensional square code), readable by QR scanners, mobile phones with a camera and smartphones.

Civil Services (Prelim) Exam, 2010 Result Announced
The Union Service Public Commission (UPSC) has announced the result of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2010 held on May 23, 2010. The successful candidates have qualified for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2010.
The candidature of these candidates is provisional. In accordance with the Rules of the Examination, all these candidates have to apply again in the detailed application form, which is available on the UPSC website i.e. www.upsc.gov.in. from where it can be downloaded and sent to the Commission duly filled in by the candidate in own handwriting, for admission to the Main Examination scheduled to be held from October 29, 2010. A copy of Detailed Application Form (DAF) shall also be sent by Post to the successful candidates by the Commission.
In case any of the successful candidates does not receive a communication in this regard from the Commission by September 08, 2010, he/she should immediately contact the Commission.
The result of Roll Nos. 256401, 275422, 340989, 551300, 551460, 548579, 275875, 288037 and 402112, has been withheld.
UPSC have a Facilitation Centre near Examination Hall Building in its Campus. How to restore iPod Software
1. Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
2. Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
3. Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
4. After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
5. Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
6. Click Restore.
7. If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
8. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
9. During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
10. After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.

As the exact marks will not be revealed, these points can be multiplied with 9.5 to get the average marks represented by the grades. Thus, A1 will be equal to 95, A2 – 85.5, B1 – 76, B2 – 66.5, C1 – 57, C2 – 47.5 and D will be equal to 38 average marks.

Finally a DivX/Xvid DVD player with USB
We had a thread back a few months ago where I was asking if there was a DVD player that can play USB well I found one.

This thing plays everything I through at it XviD and DivX wise with all the proper aspect ratios. It plays any disk either -RW or +RW CD or DVD all this with 1080p HDMI upconversion but it also has component and banana plugs if you want.
Also on the Philips site they simply say...
"Simply plug your device into the USB port on your Philips DVD system. Your digital music and photos will be played directly from the device. Now you can share your favorite moments with family and friends."
But what they don't say is that the USB also plays MP3, XviD/DivX, MPG and VOB files. To many files to play ? simply plug in your 500G external USB Hard Disk to the USB port and bingo.
It won't play DVD's from the USB but it will play the VOB files. Meaning that it won't play the DVD top menu but you can select the VOB files to play.
I did a test on my 8Gig USB stick and you have to copy the files individually VTS_01_1.VOB and then VTS_01_2.VOB and so forth. If you select 6 files to be copied at a time then it may put VTS_01_2.VOB before VTS_01_1.VOB on the stick and they won't play in order. But if you copy them in order and start the first one then it will play all VOB files in succession. Hey it's not perfect but it can be done.
I'm going to try and do more tests to see what I can do. My goal is to rip and DL 7Gig disk into one VOB file onto my USB stick but the stick is FAT32, I'll see what I can do.
So far so good. A big thumbs up for Philips.

Step By Step Process of removal
First Step -
Search for autorun.inf file. It is a read only file so you will have to change it to normal by right clicking the file , selecting the properties and un-check the read only option
Open the file in notepad and delete everything and save the file.
Now change the file status back to read only mode so that the virus could not get access again.
Second Step -
Click start->run and type msconfig and click ok
Go to startup tab look for regsvr or new folder or gpphone and uncheck the option click OK.
Third Step -
Click on Exit without Restart, cause there are still few things we need to do before we can restart the PC.
Fourth Step -
Now go to control panel -> scheduled tasks, and delete the At1 task listed their.
Fifth Step -
Now Click on start -> run and type gpedit.msc and click Ok.
If you are Windows XP Home Edition user you might not have gpedit.msc in that case download and install it from Windows XP Home Edition: gpedit.msc and then follow these steps.
Go to users configuration->Administrative templates->system
Find “prevent access to registry editing tools” and change the option to disable.
Once you do this you have registry access back.
Launch The Attack At Heart Of Castle
Click on start->run and type regedit and click ok
Go to edit->find and start the search for regsvr.exe,
Delete all the occurrence of regsvr.exe; remember to take a backup before deleting. KEEP IN MIND regsvr32.exe is not to be deleted. Delete regsvr.exe occurrences only.
At one ore two places you will find it after explorer.exe in theses cases only delete the regsvr.exe part and not the whole part. E.g. Shell = “Explorer.exe regsvr.exe” the just delete the regsvr.exe and leave the explorer.exe
Seek And Destroy the enemy soldiers, no one should be left behind
Click on start->search->for files and folders.
Their click all files and folders
Type “*.exe” as filename to search for
Click on ‘when was it modified ‘ option and select the specify date option
Type from date as 1/31/2008 and also type To date as 1/31/2008
Now hit search and wait for all the exe’s to show up.
Once search is over select all the exe files and shift+delete the files, caution must be taken so that you don’t delete the legitimate exe file that you have installed on 31st January.
Also selecting lot of files together might make your computer unresponsive so delete them in small bunches.
Also find and delete regsvr.exe, svchost .exe( notice an extra space between the svchost and .exe)
Now do a cold reboot (ie press the reboot button instead) and you are done.

Remove K0pL4xZ Virus VBWorm.QTT
“K0pL4xZ” Virus or VBWorm.QTT is computer virus that targeted on Microsoft Office files. This virus has been created using Visual Basic, Basically K0pL4xZ will change the icon and file type Microsoft Office.
To hiding K0pL4xZ will use Windows Media Player Classic icon, but if you always working carefully you will know this file type is .exe, OK let’s remove it.
Step to Remove K0pL4xZ Virus VBWorm.QTT
1. Disconnected your computer from network.
2. Turn off “System Restore” when in cleaning process.
3. Kill active virus process in your computer background using this tool.
